Multiple CISA divisions targeted in shutdown layoffs, people familiar say

Multiple divisions within the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), including Stakeholder Engagement, Infrastructure Security, and Integrated Operations, were hit with termination orders (RIFs) during the government shutdown. These layoffs, announced by OMB Director Russ Vought, are consistent with Trump administration promises and a DHS spokesperson stated they are meant to help CISA get back on mission. The agency has faced scrutiny from the Trump administration over its past work combating misinformation, which has been criticized as censorship. While the exact number of CISA staff terminated is unclear, a court filing indicated 176 employees were cut across DHS, where CISA is housed.
