Following a Supreme Court decision lifting an injunction, federal agencies are resuming workforce reductions, with 70 planned actions across 19 agencies previously blocked, according to Eric Ueland, OMB deputy director, speaking at GovExec’s Government Efficiency Summit. The Trump administration is extending a hiring freeze through October 15 and offering incentivized departures, like extended paid leave at the EPA, to reduce staff voluntarily. Ueland reported hundreds of thousands of federal jobs already cut, criticizing government inefficiency and wasteful spending. The administration is developing a President’s Management Agenda to modernize services, streamline procurement, and boost U.S. manufacturing. The Schedule Policy/Career reform will remove civil service protections, enabling easier firings to align with agency goals, while the Department of Government Efficiency advises agencies to enhance effectiveness.
