So, I am against Unions to a degree, because I have been cheated by a Union in FRC East.
Unions have to represent you no matter what, it is your decision to join or stay out for further benefits. But again, I have a sour experience with this.
They promised to represent me a while back in regards to promotion issues, and once I became a member, after repeated build up to represent and work hard on the case, they just completely ditched it.
After this, I have requested to leave the union and they stated that I have to do so on said X date since it has to fall on anniversary. 2 months prior to that date, I told them again, I wanted to leave and wanted to get the process started. They told me again, that it has to be exactly on the date of X. I waited. On day X, they told me to go to the Payroll Office and push it through. Payroll office said it had to be done on the pay period prior. They said I have to wait another year, or I can get a Union representative to sign off on it. Went back to the union, and no cap, they said “if we do it for you, we have to do it for the other people too.”
This proved to me that they knew, willingly, that they were deceiving members time and time again. For that very reason, I refuse to join any union at all. They just lie, take your money, and do nothing for you. It’s terrible, and the fact that they have to represent you anyways, along with this, there really is no reason to pay into it.
But this is my experience. Yours may vary or you may find it benefits your circumstances. I hard refuse.
